[Right] agayn it is Hichyn a smaulle [village] on the est side: and hereof
the trajectus is caullid Hichin-Fery.
Minns says:- Itchen, ... From here a ferry to the Cross House on the opposite
shore is said to have existed for a thousand years until the Floating Bridge
displaced it. The Cross House may yet be seen, an ancient stone structure under
which people could find shelter while waiting for the ferry boat.
